Happy Canada Day! On July 1, 1867, Canada was officially born as it became a new federation with its own constitution as a result to signing the Constitution Act. This act joined the provinces Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Canada (now Ontario and Quebec) into one Dominion within the British Empire, under the name of Canada. And this was 150 years ago already! The holiday was officially established in 1879, but was originally called Dominion Day. It got renamed to Canada Day in October of 1982, when the Canada Act was passed.
